Established in the first year of Ansei period (in 1854) the store was a purveyor to the Tsuwano domain, dealing with draperies, cloths, western odd pieces, sundries. The old sign showing sale of western style umbrella available tells a story of a modernizing Japan.
While the front of the building has been redesigns into a glass shop front, the building still holds its atmosphere since it was erected after the Great Fire of Kaei period (in 1853), being one of the important examples of merchant houses from that period.
A small but elegant garden from the road towards the back of the mansion still remains, with an engawa (open corridor) connecting the living area with the kura (storehouse).

⑥呉服商ささや
安政元年(1854)の創業で、藩出入りの御用商人として呉服太物、洋端物、小間物などを広く扱っていた。今も残る洋傘の看板が往時を物語っている。
建物は前面をすべてガラスウインド化しているが、全体として嘉永大火後に建てた建物の外観を残し、商家の形を今に伝える貴重な例である。正面から奥に続く通り庭の形態を残し、座敷と中央の蔵とをつなぐ縁側に沿って設けられた中庭は、小さいながらも優秀な意匠である。
