Tsuwano’s Tangible Cultural Property: Hanko Yorokan Former School of Tsuwano Domain

The former domain school was rebuilt in today’s location in 1855, after the last big fire that swept Tsuwano. The building that remains until today was the yari and kendou doujo (spear and sword fighting practice hall). After the school was closed in 1872, the building was used as a prefectural women’s school, and later as part of the town hall.

藩校養老館　（県指定）

　　

江戸時代の安政２年（1855）に再建された藩校。今日、槍術剣術場を両脇に備えた長屋門が残る。明治５年（1872）の藩校閉鎖後は、県立の女学校、役場などとして利用されてきた。剣術場は現在、津和野町民俗資料館として利用されている。
