Bon Odori (Bon Dance)

In anticipation of the Obon Season in August
the Tsuwano Japan Heritage Center
will open a special exposition on Tsuwano Odori
starting Saturday, August 2.

The Tsuwano Odori (Bon Dance) was brought to Tsuwano when the Kamei family became lords of the domain. It celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2017.

This traditional dance, which is also depicted in the Tsuwano Hyakkeizu, has been designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property by Shimane Prefecture.
It is performed every year during the Obon holiday in August at various locations throughout the town.

Starting Saturday, August 2, we will be holding a special exhibition about the Tsuwano Dance.

Be sure to stop by and discover the story behind this fascinating tradition before seeing it live!
