One of the best places to experience Tsuwano’s breathtaking autumn scenery is at the Tsuwano Castle Ruins, perched high above the town. On some mornings, you may even be lucky enough to witness the mystical Unkai — a stunning “Sea of Clouds” that transforms the ruins into a magical, floating Castle in the Sky.

During the Unkai season, the chairlift to the Tsuwano Castle Ruins opens early at 7:00 a.m. on weekends and public holidays, giving visitors the rare chance to enjoy this unforgettable sight until around 8:00 a.m.
📅 Operation Period: October 25 (Sat) – November 24 (Mon, Holiday), 2025
🕖 Days: Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays only
🕕 Start Time: From 7:00 a.m.
🎫 Round-trip Fare: Adults ¥700 / Children ¥500
💺 Reservations: Not required

Tsuwano Castle Ruins can also be reached on foot from the Taikodani Inari Jinja Shrine parking area by following the 1.5 km Chugoku Nature Trail.
This walk takes about 40 minutes uphill to the Demaru outer fortress, followed by another 20 minutes to the Honmaru main keep.
Overall, it’s a relatively easy and enjoyable climb.
*Offer available until the end of November 2025.
