Sagimai at Gion Festival

In anticipation of the Sagimai (Heron Dance)
performed during Yasaka Shrine’s Grand Festival
on July 20 and 27
the Tsuwano Japan Heritage Center
will open a special exposition
starting next Thursday, June 5.

Designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan and registered on the list of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity “Furyu-odori” (Ritual Dances), Sagimai is a cherished summer tradition in Tsuwano.
This elegant and solemn dance has captivated audiences for centuries.

👘 A rare chance to view authentic Heron Dance costumes up close
